Sanibel Island, Florida is a birder's paradise . . .
a sub-tropical island with 174 species of birds and 6,000+ acres of the J.N. "Ding" Darling Wildlife Refuge, containing a variety of habitats. More than half of Sanibel Island is permanently protected either as part of the National Wildlife Refuge or by private conservation groups.

The favorite bird-watching location on the island is the J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge; the Visitors Center at the Refuge is a must-see. Whether you're a seasoned birder or an inspired beginner, Sanibel Island is the perfect place to indulge this popular pastime.
